Back Up Solutions from More-Solutions
Are your documents backed up? Is your email backed up?
What would you do if you could not access the data on your computer? It could affect your business and put your work on hold if you could not access certain files. There are a number of reasons why you should back up all your data.
Why Should You Back Up?
The most common cause of data loss is human error, for example deleting (or saving over) a file that is needed again at a later date. A physical hardware failure is another common cause of data loss. Most users store everything on their computer hard drive, and like any mechanical device these can fail without any warning. Even if the hardware failure does not affect the hard drive, the time taken to recover data from the disk to transfer to another computer is significantly reduced by using backups. Virus attacks can affect your data making it impossible to open important files. Potential loss of or damage to the hardware, whether through theft or other causes such as fire or flood, make backups indispensable. (In the event of theft, the loss of the data may not be as significant as the fact that someone else now has it! – talk to us about data encryption!)
What You Can Do?
We have performed tests with many backup packages, ranging in price from free to many hundreds of pounds. The most suitable package for customers we have found and use is a package called "Cobian Backup", which is available free of charge and for which More Solutions Ltd can perform the installation and configuration for a nominal charge (a proportion of which More Solutions Ltd gives to the developers of the software to help fund future development of Cobian Backup). Cobian Backup has a number of features relevant to your business:
- Ability to backup files which are in use, such as Outlook mailboxes (this is typically very difficult with Outlook).
- Industry leading compression, to reduce the space required to backup your data.
- Keep “rolling” backups so that multiple versions of files are available for recovery.
- Backup to a server, off-site or to external storage such as USB thumb drive or external hard disk – which More Solutions Ltd can supply if needed
- Use a number of back up types including full, incremental, differential and dummy back ups.
- Schedule when you want the back up to start for example every hour, or once a week. There are a number of options to choice from.
- View log and errors that may occur from past backups and in progress back ups .
Your back up system will be automatic so you don't have to click anything to start it, you probably won't even notice that it is running. The cost for installation will vary depending on requirements but typically will be around £20 + VAT per PC in a small to medium sized office, and in most cases this can be done without a site visit using our remote support tool. If necessary we also sell external hard drives, USB thumb drives and off-site storage. If you would like more information or would like to order a back up system please contact More Solutions. Online Data Backup
More-Solutions Ltd introduce their new secure online data backup software for both home and business users. By subscribing to our service you will protect critical data stored on your laptops, workstations or servers through the regular backup of files to our remote server facilities. Your data can then be retrieved from anywhere in the world with an internet connection via our secure client software, for larger data retrievels we can also provide your data on CD or DVD. More convenient and reliable than a Tape or Disk backup, this service provides enterprise level security for small and medium sized companies running Windows, Linux and Mac OS X operating systems. The software simply installs on one or more machines, after a little configuration you have a backup service that does not depend on someone manually starting it off, or changing a tape. You can have as many PC's backing up to the same account with each machine storing data in its own location, you will only pay for the storage space that you use. All data sent to and from the backup server is transmitted using SSL (secure socket layer) technology with the HTTPS protocol, similar to that used for online banking. On intial registration you are supplied with a unique authentication password which identifies you to our servers. Once you data has arrived at our servers, it is stored in a compressed and encrypted format. In addtion, our servers all use RAID technology which allows the hot-swapping of individual hard disks without data loss or an interuption of service following a failiure.
Pricing starts at just £5 + VAT for 5GB of storage space and remember that is 5GB of compressed data, so you should get more than 5GB of your raw data basked up into that space.
