As you are probably aware, PAT (Portable Appliance Testing) testing is a process by which electrical appliances are checked for safety. Although it is not a legal requirement to have PAT testing carried out on your electrical equipment, it is highly recommended by several acts and regulations (eg The Health & Safety Act, Electricity at Work Regulations, Workplace Regulations and Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations) that PAT testing take place regularly (every 1-2 years).

Information Technology equipment
Information technology equipment includes electrical business equipment and mains powered telecommunications equipment, and other equipment for general business use.
Examples: Desktop and laptop computers; printers, photo-copiers and fax machines; mail processing machines, telephone handsets (if mains powered), etc.
Portable appliances
An appliance of less than 18kg in mass that is intended to be moved whilst in operation or an appliance which can easily be moved from one place to another.
Examples: kettle, vacuum cleaner, toaster, food mixer, desktop fan, etc.
Movable equipment (transportable)
This equipment is either: 18 kg or less in mass and not fixed, or equipment with wheels, castors or other means to facilitate movement by the operator as required to perform its intended use.
Examples: air conditioning units, pedestal fans, etc.
Hand Held equipment or appliances
This is portable equipment intended to be held in the hand during normal use.
Examples: electric drill, hair dryer
